The Chair of Electron Devices (LEB) conducts research in the fields of semiconductor technology and semiconductor engineering. In the field of semiconductor technology, fundamental questions regarding manufacturing methods and processes as well as the integration of new materials are addressed. The areas of expertise range from the synthesis of new semiconductor materials to the development and optimization of complex process sequences in the clean room laboratory at FAU.
In the field of semiconductor engineering, the focus is on the investigation, research, and optimization of modern device concepts and architectures. Research is conducted into advanced semiconductor devices for power electronics, quantum electronics, and photonic applications.
The focus is on processes and devices based on semiconductors with high and ultra-high band gaps such as silicon carbide (SiC), gallium nitride (GaN), and aluminum nitride (AlN). In addition to comprehensive analysis and characterization methods, the LEB has extensive tools for process and device simulations at its disposal. In all areas, there is intensive cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Systems and Device Technology (IISB). The research fields are also reflected in the lecture program of the LEB.
