Dr.-Ing. Saskia Schimmel receives funding for Emmy Noether junior research group

Dr.-Ing. Saskia Schimmel

Saskia Schimmel has been accepted into the DFG’s Emmy Noether Programme. Her project, “New Nitride Materials for Electronic Devices,” will receive approximately €1,320,000 in funding for the first three years. For the second three-year funding period, approximately €550,000 plus a programme allowance has been promised.

Project Summary: The core objectives of the project are the development of selected novel nitride semiconductors and a deeper understanding of their fabrication via ammonothermal synthesis. The project evaluates the fundamental properties of selected, previously under-researched ternary nitrides with regard to applications in electronic devices. Suitable bulk crystals are produced via ammonothermal synthesis, providing access to selected materials and a deeper understanding of the ammonothermal synthesis and doping of binary and ternary nitrides. The nitrides examined as examples can be heteroepitactically integrated with each other and, in the future, will enable novel combinations of material properties in electronic components.
